How does your 1% For The Planet partnership work and why did you pick this issue?
The evidence is overwhelming: climate change is an imminent threat, our food systems are increasingly stressed, and our lands, waters, and biodiversity are threatened like never before. If we don’t act now, the viability of our planet and our quality of life — to say nothing of the health of our economy — face an existential threat.
Unfortunately, the global community is falling far short of meeting this challenge. Currently, only 3% of philanthropic giving in the U.S. goes to environmental causes and only 3% of this giving comes from the business community. On top of that, government funding for the environment is variable even in the best of times. The global community has a responsibility and opportunity to step up for the planet and drive positive change.
As members of 1% For The Planet, we donate 1% of our sales to vetted nonprofits in a collective effort to address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity.
1% For The Planet brings dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving.
